Summer is only a month away, the days are warming up, and things are starting to hum again at Brewed As. We’ve been tuning up the vibe - from the music that fills the room to the way we think about every cup we brew and every drink we pour. It’s all about connection, craft, and those little moments that make life good.

This month, I’m sharing a few things that have been inspiring us lately - a video that completely changed how I think about great coffee, new soundtrack’s for summer, and a look at how coffee and booze have always been the best of mates.

We’ve also got an event coming up to celebrate the completion of the Wood Street Revitalisation. Plenty more details to come, but I can tell you there will be multiple live music, Date is Thursday 20th November from 4pm, a few of the artist’s and street performers are still be finalised, I will send out another newletter when all the details have been confirmed.

We’re more than just food and coffee - it’s all about the vibe. The same energy that goes into our bold, seasonal menu finds its way into the tunes we play too. Smooth beats, global grooves, and feel-good sounds that keep the place humming.

We’re changing up our music platform (saying bye bye to Spotify-and you should too) to better align with what we care about, we support dropping beats, not bombs and supporting independent artists and ethical creativity.

Expect curated mixes and playlists from the world’s finest selectors and undiscovered internet DJs who know great vibes.

Below is the first of many we’ll be sharing over the next few months. This time, it’s a brilliant tribute to the greatest Ladies of Soul.

It’s a question I get asked often by customers, friends, and home baristas alike. The first response is usually about having quality beans, well-maintained equipment, and the right recipe. I’m sorry to inform you, it’s not always that simple.

We talk a lot about ethically sourcing coffee and all the gadgets to make it, but if you think just having those things guarantees a great cup every time, you’ll end up disappointed. Over the years, I’ve realised it’s not just about the coffee itself.

The best cup I’ve ever had wasn’t the most expensive, nor was it brewed by a fancy-pants barista in a high-end café. That great cup lives in the moment - it’s embedded in the environment and the people you share it with. It’s part flavour, part mood, and part connection.

You could be catching up with an old friend in your garden patio with a couple of instant coffees, the conversation flowing, sunlight warming your face and somehow, that’s the best coffee you’d ever had.

One of my favourite coffee professionals, James Hoffmann, put this beautifully in his video “What Does a Great Cup of Coffee Taste Like?” He manages to articulate what I’ve come to discover in my own years behind the machine. I highly recommend checking out his YouTube channel for recipes, brewing tips, and fresh ways to think about coffee.

Coffee & Booze: A Love story

Let’s be honest - not much in life hits like a great cup of coffee or a well-poured drink.

Coffee kicks us into gear - gives our mornings a mission - and sometimes, lets us pretend we’ve got it all together. Alcohol, on the other hand, is the great exhale - the pause button at the end of a long day. One gets you moving, the other welcomes you home.

But somewhere along the way, these two started bumping into each other. In after-dinner cocktails, in liqueurs and digestifs, in those dangerous espresso martinis that taste like dessert and feel like a Friday.

We rarely stop to think where they came from. Coffee - once a goat-herder’s accident in Ethiopia - now a daily ritual for billions. Alcohol - as old as human celebration itself - fermented from everything from rice to honey to grapes, and often shared to mark a win, soften a loss, or just keep the night going.

When they meet, it’s magic. Think Irish coffee by a winter fire. Think affogato with amaro. Think our own take on coffee cocktails at Brewed As - where we’re always looking for new ways to celebrate both craft and connection.

So whether you're starting the day or ending it, just know this - these two have history. And their story is still being written - in every cup, every glass, every shared moment.
